"'A brawl broke out in the gym,' said Bridgette Rhodes, whose daughter performed in the competition. 'People were fighting. Somebody threw cans. Somebody threw a trophy. It was just out of control.'"As wrong as the NBA players were in the recent violence in Detroit, under-reported actions like this tell the bigger story. Our society has become more and more less civil. I don't argue that violence has increased. There has always been some level of violence historically. What is most troubling is how trivial the causes have become.
